A Sick Day Is Sometimes More Than A Cold

A woman’s recent out of office message on her email sparked praise for her company and drew attention to the efforts some companies are making to talk about employees’ mental health. A Web developer in Michigan took two days off to focus on her mental health and when the CEO applauded her candor, the emails went viral. Most of the responses were ones of appreciation, but others focused on how their workplaces and bosses wouldn’t be so open to their mental health needs.

Morning Shift talks it out with psychotherapist Amy Morin, and Kenton Beachy from an Ohio affiliate of Mental Health America and his group’s efforts to get companies to better assess what would make staff more mentally healthy at the office.
