Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia Talks Municipal ID, Women In Politics

Anna Valencia became City Clerk of Chicago back in January 2017. In addition to running one of the largest offices in city government, Valencia is in charge of administering Chicago’s Municipal ID program, which is currently in the pilot phase and is scheduled to launch in March.

Known as CityKey, the municipal ID could help people who have traditionally had a hard time obtaining a government-issued ID, including undocumented immigrants, the homeless, seniors and people who have been incarcerated. The city has also taken steps to make the ID appealing to a broader audience, including allowing it to double as a both a Chicago Public Library card and a CTA Ventra card.
