On TV, capturing the fingerprints of a suspect in a crime is a surefire way for police to know they have got the right person.
But in real life, fingerprinting is a lot more complicated.
A new story published this morning by the Better Government Association shows that faulty fingerprint work by the Chicago Police Department is undermining the prosecution of property crime cases in the city.
According to the BGA, property crimes made up three-quarters of cases in Chicago last year.
