DOJ launches initiative aimed at transgender community

Transgender people are not only more likely to be victims of violent crimes; they are also far less likely to report crimes. Now, the Dept. of Justice is launching a new program aimed at helping police better respond to transgender people and identify hate crimes. DOJ Community Relations Service Director Grande Lum discusses the new initiative and what law enforcement needs to do differently. For questions, the local DOJ Community Relations Service office can be reached at 312-353-4391. Photo: Flickr/PhotoComiX
