The Illinois High School Association announced a new initiative on Tuesday to quell critics who believe the organization hasn’t responded properly to the stories and the science surrounding head injuries in athletes that have come to light in recent years. In an effort to show their commitment to the issue, the IHSA rolled out a campaign called “Play Smart. Play Hard”. But how exactly have the rules-and more importantly the culture-surrounding contact sports changed? We get perspective from people on the ground-coaches, parents, and the president of a local youth football league.
