Michael Madigan Dismisses Second Aide Over Misconduct Allegations

For the second time in a week, powerful Illinois House speaker Michael Madigan has dismissed one of his aides in response to allegations of misconduct.

Shaw Decremer was known as an expert in the petition process which determines whether political candidates get on the ballot in Illinois. He’s played a variety of roles for Madigan.

According to a statement released by Madigan after NBC 5 Chicago broke the news of Decremer’s dismissal in its 5 o’clock newscast Monday night, the aide was accused of “inappropriate behavior by a volunteer toward a candidate and staff” during the 2016 election cycle. The statement, which refers to Decremer only as “the individual,” went on to say that Decremer had been dismissed and that Madigan is dedicated to changing the culture of those that work under him. Morning Shift talks to NBC 5 Chicago political reporter Mary Ann Ahern, who broke this story.
