School nurses prepare for flu

Kids are back in school and that means more chances to spread the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that the flu is worse than past years and is moving into epidemic status. The CDC says this is due in part to the fact that this year’s strain developed after the shot was developed, making it less effective at fighting the virus. School nurses are at the front lines of keeping kids healthy and looking for signs of the virus. We talk with nurses Jeffrey Judge from U-46 district and Jamie Peterson from Oak Park District 97 about what they’re telling students, and what protocols are in place to keep schools healthy.
