What We Know About The Recent Chemical Spills In Northwest Indiana

U.S. Steel on Friday reported a "light, intermittent oil sheen" at one of the outfalls at its Midwest Plant in Portage, Ind. It's the company's second chemical spill into Lake Michigan in less than three weeks.

But U.S. Steel isn’t the only company dealing with this issue. The nearby ArcelorMittal steel plant dumped excess ammonium and cyanide into a river that leads into Lake Michigan last month.

Morning Shift talks to WBEZ’s Michael Puente for more on the chemical spills in Northwest Indiana and how it could impact wildlife in Lake Michigan.
