In Iran in the 1970s, there were huge pop stars, funk, psychedelic rock — a music scene. But after the 1979 revolution, the new government decided that pop music wasn’t appropriate. And everything changed. On this episode we explore Iran’s Pre-Revolution pop music scene.

Correction: In the original version of this story I incorrectly stated that Googoosh rose to fame in the late 1970s. She was actually already an established singer and performer in the 1960s and her status as a pop icon continued to rise throughout the 70s.
