During January’s Schools on the Line program, Chicago schools chief Jean-Claude Brizard fielded questions from parents, teachers and students about everything from sex education to recouping more than a million dollars the district improperly paid to retired teachers.

There were multiple questions about parental involvement. One caller asked if parents will be involved in designing a new teacher evaluation system; another caller asked if Brizard ever meets with parents who are having problems with their child’s principal.

Callers also questioned Brizard about a longer school day. One parent worried that a longer school day would limit his child’s tutoring time. A teacher expressed concerns about keeping students in school for more time without air conditioning.
