A Spoken Word Extravaganza to highlight the forthcoming, groundbreaking UIC MA in English Education Program with a Certificate in Spoken Word Poetry Education.

Rationale: We have seen Spoken Word transform students in Chicago and London.  While those interested in teaching can go a more traditional route, we believe that a specialized teacher education and certification program in Spoken Word is necessary, especially if there is any hope that it can fully impact how literacy and learning happen in a school environment.

Presenting Poets include: David Schaafsma, Peter Kahn, Langston Kerman, Christina Santana, Dan Sullivan, Ugochi Nwaogwugwu, Kevin Coval, Manley High School, Novana Venerable, Adam Levin, and Louder Than a Bomb 2007 winners: Steinmetz High School.
