As a raft of mistakes and embarrassments pile up for the U.S. forces in Afghanistan, calls for accelerating the pace of withdrawal are growing louder and more numerous. But with no firm exit strategy and a military that wants to keep fighting, the U.S. is faced with difficult decisions ahead of its 2014 goal to drawdown troops.  Ahmed Rashid has been watching the latest endgame in Afghanstan with interest.
