“Sen. Lisa Murkowski has been certified the winner of Alaska’s Senate race following a nearly two-month legal battle,” the Associated Press reports. “State officials on Thursday signed paperwork making her win over GOP [and Tea Party] rival Joe Miller.”

Murkowski, who lost to Miller in the Republican primary, waged a write-in campaign to keep her seat.

Whether this is the last step in the process is still unclear, however. The Anchorage Daily News writes that Miller was to announce his plans later today. And it reported yesterday that he might go to federal court to argue that “the U.S. Constitution puts authority for regulating elections with the legislature, not election officials.” Miller contends that some of the write-in votes counted for Murkowski should have been disqualified.

According to the state’s count, Murkowski had 101,091 votes to Miller’s 90,839. Democrat Scott McAdams trailed behind. Copyright 2010 National Public Radio. To see more, visit http://www.npr.org/.
