Alexandra Zapruder, a writer and scholar in Washington D.C., is the author of Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust, a compilation of journal entries written by young people who lived under the terror of the Nazi regime. Zapruder spent ten years compiling the thought provoking journal entries and interviewing the writers who survived the Holocaust. The book inspired the MTV documentary, I’m Still Here: Real Diaries of Young People Who Lived During the Holocaust. Zapruder focuses on the power of the written word in conveying the emotional range of the human experience and will read excerpts from her work. Cast members from the acclaimed Steppenwolf Theater Company will open the event by performing excerpts from their upcoming play, The Diary of Anne Frank.  This event was recorded as part of the Facing History and Ourselves series.

Recorded Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Chicago Public Library.
