Daniel Smith, Chicago’s very own Marivaux specialist, reflects on Remy Bumppo’s production of “Changes of Heart” with director Timothy Douglas.

Smith is currently on faculty at The Theatre School at DePaul University where he specializes in 18th-century French drama and literature. Here, he addresses just who playwright Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux was and what makes him unique in the cannon. He also discusses the French-to-English translation process and how a translation is shaped for longevity versus modernity.

Recorded Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Greenhouse Theater Center.
