Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Professor of Geography at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center, is a scholar, feminist activist, and author of the award-winning book Golden Gulag: Prisons, Surplus, Crisis, and Opposition in Globalizing California. She is also a cofounder of Critical Resistance and will be discussing her stunning critique of mass incarceration. Known for her accessible arguments and activist engagement, her visionary leadership has been instrumental in advancing the campaign to reduce the over-reliance on incarceration and to build alternative pathways to safety and justice. This event is presented by the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago in partnership with Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, The Public Square (a program of the Illinois Humanities Council), and others.
