Retail stores are pushing online shopping Monday for what’s referred to as Cyber Monday. Some major retail outlets like Wal-Mart and Target have eliminated shipping charges for purchases.

R.J. Hottovy is an analyst at Morningstar. He said stores are pushing their online sales to prevent items from being left on the shelves after the holiday shopping season is over. “I think retailers are looking to clear inventory as quickly as they can to avoid any aggressive markdowns closer to the holiday season,” Hottovy said.

Hottovy said he expects more consumers to shop online than in previous years. He said electronics and video games are likely to be the most sought-after products from online consumers.
