Voters may know soon whether the gambling bill allowing five new casinos is moving forward. Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) has been holding the bill until he can work out a compromise with Gov. Pat Quinn.

“The senate president continues to talk to the governor about what specific concerns there might be, if there is a need to go back in and tighten up various language,” Cullerton spokesman John Patterson said.

But sources say Cullerton will send the bill to Quinn’s desk by the end of the month, regardless of a possible veto from Quinn. Supporters of more gambling want Quinn to act so they have time to come up with a game plan by the fall veto session. If Quinn vetoes or changes the bill, they’ll need to pass it again. The veto session starts the last week in October.
