The Chicago Housing Authority has reached a court settlement with a group of lawyers pushing for public housing units on the city’s North Side.

The historic public housing known as Lathrop Homes is being redeveloped for mixed income use, and the plan calls for cutting more than half of the property’s 925 public housing units.

Through the settlement reached Friday, CHA must ensure those lost units be built elsewhere on the North Side or in areas that aren’t racially segregated.

CHA says it was committed to replacing the units, even before the settlement, and that plans are already in the works.
