Challenger To Evanston City Clerk Remains On Ballot

A man wrongfully arrested while campaigning for city clerk in north suburban Evanston will be allowed to continue his run.

Devon Reid was arrested last month after he refused to give an Evanston police officer his birthdate.

He was quickly released and cleared, but his candidacy was then called into question by the wife of his only opponent, who is the current city clerk.

She said Reid missed the paperwork deadline, but Reid argued the current city clerk misstated the deadline date.

The Evanston electoral board decided to allow Reid’s name on the ballot, which he says he’s happy about.

"I’m someone who likes to walk with faith," Reid said. "I prepared my case as well as I could and I was confident in my case."

Evanston voters will choose their next city clerk in April.
