You may recognize Chris Hayes from MSNBC, where he hosts Up with Chris Hayes on weekend mornings, frequently appears on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donell, and occassionally guest-hosts The Rachel Maddow Show. He’s the former Washington editor and current editor-at-large for The Nation magazine. He also happens to be longtime Chicago reporter Andy Shaw’s son-in-law.

Hayes can now add “author” to his resume, with the recent release of his book Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy. In the book, he outlines the causes and effects of America’s crisis of authority, and calls for a sweeping overhaul of the social order.

He’s on Thursday’s Afternoon Shift to discuss the issues of inequality and meritocracy plaguing American society.

Hayes will also be discussing and signing copies of his first book at Harold Washington Library Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.
