A couple of candidates for Chicago mayor are protesting Rahm Emanuel’s decision to use footage of President Obama in a recent television ad.

The ad is called “leadership” and it features sound and video from President Obama’s speech when Emanuel left his job as chief of staff in the White House for an expected run for mayor.

“We are all very excited for Rahm as he takes on a new challenge for which he is extraordinarily well qualified,” Mr. Obama is heard saying.

“I think the ad is dishonest,” said Miguel del Valle, the Chicago city clerk.

Del Valle says the ad implies an endorsement for Emanuel, which has not been officially made.

“Either Barack Obama does a straight-out endorsement or Rahm Emanuel should discontinue using an ad that is for the purpose of misleading voters,” del Valle said.

Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun said she has not seen the Emanuel ad, but nonetheless called it “disingenuous.”

“He drove the president’s poll numbers down into the ground, did not serve the president’s agenda,” Braun said.

The Emanuel campaign had no comment on the criticism.
