There’s a reason that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – better known as the DSM – is often referred to as the “psychiatric bible,” as it has major real-life implications for things like health insurance and social services. Although the DSM-5 is not expected to come out for another year, proposed changes have created a firestorm. Today on Eight Forty-Eight, we sit down with Northwestern University professor and Psychology Today columnist Christopher Lane and two Chicago clinicians, UIC psychiatrist Maria Caserta and psychologist Steven Migalski, to talk about the changes. Then, Chicago magazine Deal Estate columnist Dennis Rodkin stops by to discuss International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde’s plan to stimulate the lagging global economy by slashing Americans’ mortgage debt. Rodkin will also give his take on Illinois’ home prices and sales for March.
