Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he did not play a role in the decision to scrap a student design chosen for the city’s vehicle sticker.

The City Clerk’s office chose a new sticker earlier this week after the original design was thought to contain gang symbols.

“I will not deviate from what I think is my responsibility to be true to what I promised people not only in the election, but what I think is most important to the city’s future. I’ll leave the commenting and other people, if I want to talk about the sticker, they have done that. I think there’s been enough said,” said Mayor Emanuel on Friday.

Former police superintendent Jody Weis was consulted on whether the first sticker contained gang signs. Weis said the drawing was perceived to have gang symbols in it and agreed with the decision to use a different design.
