Marc Bamuthi Joseph, a nationally acclaimed educator and Alpert Award recipient for theater, teams up with Van Jones, author and jobs advisor to the White House, for a frank discussion about environmental racism, social ecology, and collective responsibility in an era of dramatic climate change. Throughout their long friendship they have paved unique paths toward a national conversation about jobs, manufacturing, and the green economy as experienced among members of the black working class. Jones is leader of Rebuild The Dream, the growing movement to rebuild America’s middle class, and this talk is his only local appearance during a national speaking tour. Marc Bamuthi is creator of the movement Life is Living, which is going strong in its sixth year and unites art activism and education as a potent communicative vehicle in the national effort.

This event is copresented by the Museum of Contemporary Art with The University of Chicago, and portoluz as part of WPA 2.0: a brand new deal.
