A fighter pilot is receiving medical attention after an F-16 crashed in southern Wisconsin today. Officials say the pilot was able to eject from the jet just in time.

The F-16 was on a routine training flight when it crashed into a summer home near the township of Chester, according to Lt. Col. Jackie Guthrie of the Wisconsin National Guard. No one was in the cottage during the accident.

The area surrounding the crash has been evacuated but Guthrie says residents should be able to return to their homes in the next couple of hours.

The pilot is from the Madison-based 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
