The Chicago Cubs play their home opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday afternoon. Some fans were getting an early start Friday morning.

The sun wasn’t even peeking over the Lake Michigan horizon, but a couple of the bars near Wrigley Field already had lines. Casey Moran’s had one of the shortest. A group of four, including Justin Romme, was waiting for the 6 a.m. opening.

“Yeah, we thought there’d be a line but dodged that bullet,” he said.

Margo Romme said going out before the home opener is an annual tradition for the group.

“You know the fun and excitement of getting up the morning after Christmas for all the sales? Well, it’s the same thing. It’s the same thing with the game. It’s just exciting,” she said.

As for the possibility of rain, Margo Romme didn’t seem too worried.

There was some hesitancy in the group as to whether they thought this was the Cubs’ year to win it all, but the group consensus was win or lose, they’ll still be fans next year.
