As you may know, I often cover food stories for the News department here. Today was no exception. The Green City Market started today — which means it’s time for me to put away my favorite braising cookbook — and start thinking vegetables.

The market today was dominated by greens: baby arugula (which I missed), baby lettuce (also gone when I got there), asparagus, green garlic, chives, and radishes. Strawberries probably won’t start showing up until June. I’m excited for my first strawberry and rhubarb pie of the season. I think I’ll try this recipe. Do you have any other suggestions?

I did end up buying a few basil plants. Pesto season isn’t that far away now either”¦

One more thing — the cost of parking is up at the lot near the market. Last year I paid 4 dollars to park (1 hour with validation). This year it’s 9 dollars (buys you two hours.) That means I’ll need to come up with some other way to get there, or come up with a new market.
