Increased urbanization is raising new challenges in food security. Leaders in both developed and developing countries are beginning to recognize that urban food insecurity is at least as pressing a problem as rural food insecurity.

Please join The Chicago Council’s Emerging Leaders Class of 2013 as they present the findings of their year-long study of urban food security issues. Ambassador William J. Garvelink and Mike Simmons will deliver remarks and comment on the Emerging Leaders report. Copies of the report will be distributed at the event.

Ambassador William J. Garvelink is a senior adviser (non-resident) for US leadership in development at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and a senior adviser for global strategy at the International Medical Corps.

Mike Simmons serves as policy director to Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, where he has helped develop public policy across many issue areas, including homelessness, housing, economic development, and food deserts.
