geoYesterday, Alison Cuddy stopped by my desk and we somehow ended up debating the merits of spending money on a newer car in order to get better mileage. Well, maybe you don’t need to spend 15K on a car to save $700 a year on gas costs. Remember, the Geo Metro? This early 90’s compact car is making a comeback on the used market because it gets 46 miles to the gallon! The ‘lil 1 liter engine squeezes as much mileage out of a gallon of gas as a hybrid Toyota Prius. This keeps the Geo a hot ticket among used cars and commands an asking price of around $7,000. As Mike Puente reports, Chicagoans are already crossing state lines for cheaper gas. Will we also start hopping into a 16-year-old Geo to save money? Um…that might take $5 a gallon.
