Yesterday in Ivory Coast a delegation of leaders from ECOWAS, the Ecomonic Community of West African States, met with Laurent Gbagbo. President Gbagbo is reluctant to relinquish power after losing the November election to rival Alassane Ouattara.

But at the meeting Gbagbo agreed unconditionally to end the stand off while making it known his tenure as president was non-negotiable.

Gbagbo did promise to lift the blockade around the hotel Ouattara is holed up in, but today the blockade continues and a Ouattara supporter was killed in a raid by Gbagbo’s security forces on Ouattara’s headquaters.
