It’s Thursday and time for our Global Activism series. Each Thursday we hear about an individual who’s decided to work to make the world a better place.

Bolivia is South America‘s poorest country, with over 70% of its population living under the poverty line.

Yesterday, we heard a little about how the clothing industry in Bolivia has been undermined in recent years by the influx of used clothing into the country.

Today we’re going to hear about an organization that is helping Bolivians in the clothing industry break the cycle of poverty.

Kristine Delacourt is the coordinator of Solidarity Clothing.  They’re an organization working with sewing cooperatives in Bolivia to bring fair trade clothing items to the U.S.

They work with three sewing cooperatives near the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia.  The majority of the entrepreneurs they work with are women.
