Every Thursday on our Global Activism series, we hear about an individual who’s decided to work to make the world a better place.

Elizabeth Mhangami is the founder and executive director of Vanavevhu Children of the Soil. The organization supports families where children, some as young as 14, are running the household. Most of these young girls have been left to care for their families after losing their parents to AIDS.

Vanavevhu currently works in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, which is where Elizabeth was born and raised. Elizabeth founded the organization because she realized the country’s economic and health would lead to an entire generation being lost unless something was done to help these young girls.
