Global Notes: Local musician teaches at Haitian school, learns about underexposed Haitian composers

Radio M host Tony Sarabia joins Jerome for another edition of Global Notes, Worldview’s weekly look at what’s happening in the world of music.

Tom Clowes is a graduate student at Roosevelt University's Chicago Conservatory of Performing Arts.  For the past several summers, he’s taught at Port-au-Prince’s Holy Trinity Music School. Before the earthquake, it served as Haiti's de facto national orchestra.

Clowes talks about his experiences teaching music in Haiti, and he performs some Haitian compositions in our Jim and Kay Mabie Performance Studio.

Tom Clowes performs "Erzulie Malade" on Worldview Global Notes from WBEZ on Vimeo.
