Indian marching band Red Baraat shakes up 'Eight Forty-Eight'
Red Baraat shook up WBEZ this morning. The band, often described as an Indian marching band, got so into the song you'll see below that they played far past when the show ended; the BBC had started, and we kept filming them as they continued to riff. Host Tony Sarabia even suggested they keep playing as they walked out (and he was only half joking).
Lead by Sunny Jain on the dhol, the decidedly large (there are eight of them) Brookln-based band squeezed into the studio with Rohin Khemani and Tomas Fujiwara on percussion, John Altieri on sousaphone, MiWi La Lupa on bass trumpet, Sonny Singh on trumpet, Ern Stuart on trombone and Alex Hamlin on baritone sax.
Red Baraat played at Schubas Monday evening and will be at Elgin College on Friday. In the video below, you might notice that they veered slightly off the set-list (you might recognize a version of this song).
