Jhumpa Lahiri, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Interpreter of Maladies, talks with Mary A. Dempsey, Commissioner of the Chicago Public Library. Interpreter of Maladies is an eloquent collection of short stories highlighting interpersonal relationships in both India and the United States, and allows readers a glimpse into the experience of immigrants, expatriates and first generation Americans living in America yet celebrating their cultural roots.

Interpreter of Maladies is the latest selection for One Book, One Chicago, the city-wide reading program which encourages all Chicagoans to read the same book at the same time and to gather together in discussion with friends and neighbors.

Recorded Monday, October 09, 2006 at Chicago Public Library.
