Dancers at Chicago’s Joffrey Ballet could soon be back on the dance floor. Earlier this month, Joffrey management locked out its dancers until they agreed on a new contract.

“After some schoojing, I suppose is the best word, some minor modifications, we were able to reach an agreement,” said James Odom, the American Guild of Musical Artists.

Odom said under the agreement, dancers will be working longer hours and the Joffrey season shouldn’t be affected by the labor dispute. The union is scheduled to vote on the agreement later this month.

Meantime, a spokesperson with the Joffrey Ballet said the two sides reached a five-year agreement and the dancers will receive a 10 percent compensation increase over that time. Christopher Clinton Conway said he’s pleased with the agreement and eager to start the season later this year.
