A federal judge in Chicago has delayed the sentencing for former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. The ex-governor was scheduled to be sentenced next week, but in a notice posted today, Judge James Zagel delayed the sentencing to a date to be named later.

Zagel offered no explanation of the decision, but Blagojevich’s co-defendant, William Cellini, is scheduled to begin his corruption trial next Monday. Judge Zagel is also presiding over that case. Cellini is accused of trying to extort campaign contributions for Blagojevich.

In the same notice, Zagel also denied all post-trial motions from Blagojevich’s defense attorneys, including a request for a new trial.

The former governor’s attorneys accused the government and Zagel of not being evenhanded during the trial.

Earlier this year, Blagojevich was found guilty on 17 of the 20 counts against him.
