That’s exactly what artist Adriana Calconhotto has done with her second such album appropriately entitled, Partimpim Dois. The new release is one of Chicago Reader music writer Peter Margasak’s picks for this month’s New Sounds. He also pulls out some music from Colombia and Singapore.

Plus, a couple of tunes from the legendary Cuban band, Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Pinero. The band, started in 1927 by bassist Ignacio Pinero, pioneered the musical style known as son.
