Lincoln Diversified: The Fiery Trial

Looking through the lens of slavery, Native American displacement, and foreign relations with Mexico, this seminar explores the stories of Lincoln's relationships with diverse communities.

From a man who shared many of the prejudices of his time to an advocate for a biracial democracy, Abraham Lincoln experienced a fundamental transformation of his political beliefs. Columbia University's Eric Foner examines the evolution of Lincoln's attitudes toward the institution of slavery.

Recorded Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Chicago History Museum.
