Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says Rod Blagojevich is a “liar” for saying he was close to appointing her to the U.S. Senate.

In recent media interviews, Blagojevich says the appointment would’ve been part of a legislative deal with Madigan’s father, the speaker of the Illinois House.

The attorney general says the former governor never contacted her.

MADIGAN: I think it’s been very clear based on our complete lack of a relationship. One, that the governor never reached out to me. Two, that would he reach out to me I would never have accepted an appointment to the U.S. Senate seat from him.

Blagojevich has been accused of trying to trade or sell the once-vacant Senate seat for personal gain. He denies that and claims the alleged deal with the Madigans would have led to jobs, health care legislation, and a freeze on the income tax.
