Representatives from minority groups are weighing in on legislative redistricting. Recent census data show Illinois’ Asian and Latino populations have grown faster than other minority groups in the last decade.

Teresa Haley is with the NAACP. She said she’s concerned demographic changes could threaten the voting power of the black community.

“We want to make sure our districts are represented well in terms of the minority community,” Haley said Wednesday. “We want to ensure that there is no packing, stacking and cracking going on in Illinois.”

Lawmakers have until June 30th to pass a new map.
