On Monday’s Afternoon Shift we talk about a few diverse groups undergoing surveys to find their common interest.

First we check in with WBEZ’s Political Reporter, Sam Hudzik. He wasn’t satisfied with the chattering class’s assessment of Rahm Emanuel’s first year as mayor, so he gave himself the rather large task of interviewing one regular person from each of Chicago’s 50 wards to get a more robust picture of the mayor’s performance. He dubbed it “50 Wards in 50 Weekdays” and now he’s at his halfway point. We find out what insights he’s gleaned so far.

Our review panel surveys the news of the day and shares the most interesting stories in The 3@3. Today we welcome 1st Ward Alderman Proco Joe Moreno and Time Out Chicago‘s Laura Baginski.

Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard is in the midst of a showdown with the Chicago Teachers’ Union. They recently surveyed their ranks and got enough votes to authorize a strike. We ask how Brizard plans to respond.

Finally, Lee Bey joins us to talk about a recent survey of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. They’re pushing a few places in Chicago for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. We find out which ones have to best chance of making the cut.
