Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett and James Cain all had an indelible influence on Hollywood films of their era.  Listen in as scholar James Naremore, professor emeritus of film studies at Indiana University-Bloomington and author of the acclaimed More Then Night: Film Noir in Its Contexts, explores how the work of these authors was adapted by Hollywood.  This is a One Book, One Chicago event.

Chicago Public Library was excited to celebrate Raymond Chandler’s crime novel, The Long Goodbye, as the Spring 2008 One Book, One Chicago selection.  Throughout April, special programs, readings, film screenings and book discussions took place throughout the city.  The Music Box Theatre has chosen films written by Chandler or adapted from his novels as the focus of their weekend matinee series, and the local Chicago crime writers who make up The Outfit Collective took part in a virtual discussion of the book online - just some of the special programming taking place as the city reads together.
