Illinois Republican Jim Oberweis says a labor complaint filed against his dairy company is simply a smear against his gubernatorial campaign.

Two undocumented workers say the company paid them less than half the state’s minimum wage to clean its stores.

But Oberweis says the workers were employed by a cleaning contractor, and have no direct connection to Oberweis Dairies.

He says the workers’ complaints are being pushed by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

That coalition joined the two workers in filing the labor complaint late last week.

It alleges the workers were partly employed by Oberweis Dairies, because they used the company’s equipment and were supervised by store managers.
