Occupy Chicago organizers are intent on getting a permanent camp site, and they want Mayor Rahm Emanuel to make it happen.

On Wednesday, more than 100 protestors marched from the Chicago Board of Trade building to the mayor’s office in city hall to hand over a petition asking that Emanuel allow the group to set up a permanent camp in Grant Park. They also want the city to allow protestors within “sight and sound” of the upcoming G8 and NATO conferences.

Long-time activist Andy Thayer said the mayor has a responsibility to protect Chicagoans’ First Amendment rights.

“That’s why we took our message right here to city hall,” said Thayer. “We’re angry at his arrests of the occupy Chicago protestors, so we’re taking it right to his door step, right now.”

Occupy Chicago also demands that charges against arrested protestors be dropped. This past weekend 130 people were arrested for camping in Grant Park after closing time.
