We at WBEZ seek to make a positive impact in Chicago with both news and stories. Now with the support of Chicago Cares, the city’s leading service organization, we’ll launch our first ever Day of Service featuring service projects with a range of non-profits across the region. Scheduled service projects run from Wednesday, May 29, to Saturday, June 1, and range from projects with Children’s Home + Aid, Flannery Apartments, Greater Chicago Food Depository and the People’s Music School among others. Host seniors at a birthday party, dig in the dirt to create a garden, build shelves for students or paint a mural with the direction of an artist. A range of service projects are available.

Reservations are free, but required. Sign up here.

Saturday, June 1st, all volunteers and the public are invited to join in an evening of storytelling co-presented by The Moth, the hottest storytelling event series in Chicago.  It’s a competitive StorySLAM featuring five minute stories from folks who sign up that night at the event. The theme is WHEN I HELPED.

Top this off with a performance by the Blue Ribbon Glee Club and the first Goose Island Green Line on the house for Day of Service volunteers at Schubas, 5-7pm in the Schubas backyard.

Evening celebration and concert is FREE for Day of Service participants (you will be sent an RSVP link).
$15, $12 for WBEZ Members or $10 for students with valid I.D.
