The Garifuna are Afro-descendant people who primarily live along the Caribbean coast in Central America. Miram Miranda is of Garifuna descent and the general coordinator of the National Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras. The group works against privatization of natural resources and the cultural destruction of the Garifuna. Miriam discusses how police and paramilitary death squads in Honduras violently oppress them for control of their ancestral lands.
