In the 1998 film “Pieces of Identity,” Mani Kongo, king of a rural area of the Bakongo, travels to Belgium in search of his daughter with whom he has not been in contact for a long time. As he negotiates traveling from a rural area in the Congo to Kinshasa and then Brussels, we learn about issues of identity and experiences of prejudice in a European society.

“Pieces of Identity” is part of the Center for Black Diaspora’s Winter Quarter film series “Cinema: Transnational Subjects, African & Black Diaspora Immigrant Experiences.” The films cover a wide scope of discussion on the diaspora in little known places like Iran as well as the migration to places in Europe and the Americas.
