The Embraceables, a “soulful pop” band from Chicago, are known for dressing in purple and throwing balloon parties in the middle of their performances. When I went to one of their shows a few months ago, singer Maggie swallowed one of those long balloons right in the middle of a song (a trick she learned from a local magician friend). Music too was excellent - catchy, playful, joyful, and so we were excited to invite them to do a set during our Wednesday live performance series on Vocalo 89.5 (8-9 pm). They played songs from their first album “Stories” as well as a brand new one “Wanna” . Vocalo MusicVox host Jesse talked to them about their feminism-inspired lyrics and their fascination with purple color. The Embraceables live in Mabie Performance Studio (9/8/10). Interviewed by Jesse Menendez. Engineered by Adam Yoffe. Edited by Fyodor Sakhnovski.
